Patty has owned and been owned by many dogs in her life since her first dog at age 8. Her favorite activity with them is obedience training. Working together in a teaching/learning setup really allows bonding with your dog. Teaching them how to use their nose for us is especially worthwhile since it gives the dog great confidence and purpose.
Linda Kender, Senior Dog Trainer at Dog Angels, Inc. Linda is our Senior Dog Trainer at Dog Angels, Inc. responsible for training our Service Dogs to become Diabetic Alert, Psychiatric Service Dogs and Emotional Support Dogs. Linda offers extensive experience in training and evaluating Service Dogs.
Linda's passion for dogs has been lifelong. As a young child she taught her (very) mixed breed dog Speckles how to sit, lie down, jump through a hoop and play dead through the use of kindness, a sense of kinship, fun and the occasional dog biscuit.
Linda received her CPDT-KA certification as a professional dog trainer from the Certification Council for Professional Dog Trainers in September of 2003 and went on to pass the prestigious CPDT-KSA certification test in 2012. (There are currently less than 150 CPDT-KSAs worldwide.) Linda is a professional member of the Association of Pet Dog Trainers (APDT) and the Pet Professional Guild.
She became a Therapy Dog Evaluator for the Delta Society (later Pet Partners) in 1999. She is currently a Therapy Dog Evaluator for Bright & Beautiful Therapy Dogs and strongly believes in partnership as the essential bond between people and their canine companions. Her current therapy dog is Cardigan Welsh Corgi named Jackson.
Linda has been teaching dog training classes since 1998 and started Safe Harbor Animal Sanctuary & Hospital's obedience dog training program in 1999. She is currently a mentor trainer for The Animal Behavior College and works with new trainers to complete their externships.
With over 40 years experience with American Pit Bull Terriers, she has owned and trained three who were Delta Society Pet Partners Therapy Dogs. Her American Pit Bull Terrier "MangoMaddy" was the first of her breed to be registered as a therapy dog in Florida by the Delta Society in 1998.
Recognizing the importance of well socialized dogs trained with basic good manners, Linda has been an American Kennel Club Canine Good Citizen Evaluator for nearly twenty years.
Linda currently shares her home with three dogs including a Cardigan Welsh Corgi, a Shepherd Mix and a Belgian Tervuren.
